About SCSD

The Saskatchewan Coalition for Sustainable Development (SCSD) was formed in 2018 by a coalition of Saskatchewan activists, primarily with backgrounds in science, who examine policy alternatives and advocate for mitigation of anthropogenic climate change.
SCSD recognizes that the science of climate change is evident; and that Saskatchewan must embark on a path of low carbon economic growth. SCSD exists to question the morality of political leadership that is deliberately and knowingly imposing the extreme costs of climate change on future generations.
Viable pathways to a sustainable future do exist. Good management brings change without upset. SCSD knows there is a closing window of opportunity to transition to a thriving low carbon economy in a manageable manner. The longer we delay or avoid embracing a clean energy economy, the more disruptive the inevitable change will be. Applying a fraction of the future cost of climate change damage to progressively decarbonizing our economy over the next few decades is not only ethical but an exercise in common sense economics.
Our Mission
The Saskatchewan Coalition for Sustainable Development (SCSD) is driving momentum towards sustainable development via policy analysis, development, and advocacy that educates and inspires action from the public, industry, and all levels of government.

Our Vision for Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan has abundant natural resources and Saskatchewan people have a history of innovation and determination. Our vision is that Saskatchewan becomes a world leader on clean energy, energy efficiency, and rational public policy implementation that can model a sustainable growth pathway that will lead Canada and the world toward mitigation of anthropogenic Climate Change.
Guiding Principles
Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace, and justice. The United Nations has proposed 17 interconnected goals with objectives to achieve milestones by the year 2030. The UN Sustainable Development goals are found here: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/ and include (among others):
- No Poverty
- Zero Hunger
- Clean Water and Sanitation
- Gender Equity
- Reduced Inequality
SCSD supports the above social sustainable development goals. Interrelated to these social objectives are the following goals which are more focussed on economic and energy policy. SCSD strives to emphasize the importance and relevance of these goals to Saskatchewan:
- Climate Action
- Affordable and Clean Energy
- Decent Work and Economic Growth
- Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Responsible Production and Consumption
The need to balance economic, social, and environmental objectives has never been greater. The time to embrace the principles of sustainable development is now.
